Position Overview: Procurement Specialist

Location: Pittsfield, MA
Employment Type: Full Time
Work Arrangement: Onsite
Schedule: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm; M-F
Reports To: General Manager
Travel Requirements: Less than 5%

Role Summary:

The Procurement Specialist plays a crucial role in managing procurement activities related to print materials and services. This position involves sourcing commercial printing supplies, negotiating with vendors, and ensuring the organization secures the best possible terms for its purchases. The ideal candidate will engage in strategic procurement across various categories, focusing on cost efficiency and building strong supplier relationships, particularly in the area of commercial print paper.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement effective purchasing strategies for the organization.
  • Evaluate and manage procurement risks to ensure smooth operations.
  • Oversee the acquisition of materials including dyes, foils, packaging, and office supplies.
  • Coordinate with production schedules to guarantee timely availability of products.
  • Monitor demand forecasts and determine optimal order quantities.
  • Resolve any logistics challenges that may arise.
  • Utilize the EPMS system for all procurement activities.
  • Identify and collaborate with reliable suppliers, negotiating favorable contracts.
  • Explore material sourcing alternatives and assess purchasing options.
  • Address vendor-related issues, including pricing and fulfillment discrepancies.
  • Participate in cost-reduction initiatives through analysis and benchmarking.
  • Track key performance metrics to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Manage capital expenditures and reconcile receiving documents.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation within the purchasing department.
  • Oversee inventory management and related tasks.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Management or a related field with 2-4 years of experience in a manufacturing setting.
  • 3-5 years of experience in commercial print paper procurement, preferably with a 40-inch commercial printer.
  • Strong understanding of paper grades, weights, finishes, and sizes.
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking abilities in a supply chain context.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and effective communication.
  • Proficient in MS Excel.
  • Exceptional time management and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Proven negotiation skills with a track record of successful cost-saving initiatives.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

This role requires the ability to sit, stand, and walk regularly. The employee may occasionally lift or move items weighing up to 25 pounds. The work environment is primarily office-based, with occasional exposure to a manufacturing facility.
