We are seeking a skilled Behavioral Health Specialist to join our team at NYC Health + Hospitals. As a Behavioral Health Specialist, you will play a critical role in providing care to patients in the New York City jail system.

Salary: $65,000 - $85,000 per year, depending on experience.

About the Job

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic and innovative healthcare environment. As a Behavioral Health Specialist, you will be responsible for performing crisis and/or de-escalation interventions, therapeutic observations, individual and group engagements, client supervision, and other behavioral health-related duties.

  • You will work closely with an interdisciplinary team to identify client characteristics and environmental variables that may trigger agitated behavior(s) and communicate such information to the treatment team.
  • Perform client checks/rounds and video surveillance, completes MH Rounds forms as required, and reports observations, interactions, and client activity to the interdisciplinary team.
  • You will support medication administration and participate in staff, departmental, and team meetings.
  • Familiarity with mental health diagnoses and symptoms related to mental illness is preferred.

Requirements
  1. An Associate's degree in criminal justice, social services, or a health-related area; or a High School diploma or a G.E.D. and one (1) year of full-time experience in law enforcement, nursing, or psychiatric/behavioral health in a high-volume, intensive care environment.
  2. Successful completion of an appropriate training program in the application and use of restraints and seclusion must be completed prior to an individual performing such work.
  3. Flexible disposition and excellent interpersonal communication skills are essential.
