Position Overview
The University of Utah is seeking a dedicated postdoctoral researcher to join the esteemed Chandran Research Group within the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. This role is integral to a federally-funded initiative focused on the processing and mechanical properties of high-temperature refractory alloys, particularly niobium alloys.

Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will undertake the following responsibilities:

  • Conduct ingot and powder metallurgy processing of refractory alloys.
  • Perform CALPHAD calculations to aid in alloy design.
  • Characterize microstructures and evaluate alloy properties to meet project performance objectives.
  • Ensure a safe and organized laboratory environment.
  • Collaborate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Communicate research findings through presentations and publications in reputable journals.

Qualifications
Applicants must possess a PhD in Metallurgy or Materials Science and Engineering, with a strong emphasis on physical and mechanical metallurgy. A proven track record of quality peer-reviewed publications is essential. Experience in spark plasma sintering, phase diagrams, electron microscopy, and mechanical testing is highly desirable. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment are crucial.
