Job Title: Principal Planner

Join the City of Ventura as a Principal Planner and play a pivotal role in shaping the city's future. As a key member of the Community Development Department, you will lead the Planning Division and guide the team in development review, land use policy updates, environmental analysis, and community housing and economic development programs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the Planning Division and supervise professional, technical, and clerical staff
  • Supervise consultant or contract services
  • Develop and implement land use policies and plans
  • Conduct environmental analysis and impact assessments
  • Collaborate with community groups and stakeholders
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in urban planning, urban design, landscape architecture, architecture, environmental studies, public administration, engineering, or a closely related field
  • 5+ years of professional planning experience, including 2+ years of lead or supervisory experience
  • Valid certification by the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) is desirable
