Job Description:

As a Senior Molecular Biologist at the Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services, you will play a crucial role in managing the technical resources and activities of our SCID-SMA Newborn Screening Team. With extensive latitude to develop and interpret protocols using advanced scientific knowledge and judgment, you will oversee daily molecular genetic activities, ensuring analytical accuracy of testing performed in the laboratory through regular reviews of Quality Control, Quality Assurance, and proficiency surveys.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Manage advanced molecular genetic daily activities of the SCID-SMA screening laboratory, maintaining current CLIA-compliant standard operating procedure manuals and ensuring compliance with DSHS Laboratory, local, state, and federal guidelines.
  2. Perform routine bench technical duties, including analysis, interpretation of highly complex molecular data, verification, and release of results, as well as troubleshooting technical and equipment issues.
  3. Coordinate research, evaluation, and development projects to ensure state-of-the-art testing, implementing new procedures as appropriate and conducting validation studies.
  4. Participate in preparing laboratory budgets and cost analysis, assessing equipment and staffing requirements, and notify supervisors of problems impacting laboratory functionality.

Educational Requirements:

  • Masters or Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related field.

Compensation Package:

We offer a competitive salary range of $120,000 - $150,000 per annum, depending on experience, as well as excellent benefits, including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
