Overview

The Artificial Intelligence (AI) Frameworks team at Microsoft develops cutting-edge AI software that enables seamless integration of AI models across various platforms, from the world's fastest AI supercomputers to servers, desktops, mobile phones, IoT devices, and internet browsers. This collaborative effort involves working closely with hardware teams and partners to build comprehensive software stacks for AI across Microsoft.

We focus on optimizing and scaling out model training and inference, with direct collaboration with OpenAI on the models hosted on the Azure OpenAI service. The ONNX Runtime is shipped in major Microsoft products, including Office, Windows, Bing, SQL Server, and Dynamics, serving trillions of inferences daily.

Job Description

This position involves managing an engineering team, setting technical direction, and contributing to hands-on software design and development. The ideal candidate has a proven track record of solving complex technical problems and is driven to tackle the most challenging aspects of building a full end-to-end AI stack. Strong entrepreneurial skills, initiative, and the ability to move quickly are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the engineering team.
  • Apply engineering principles to define robust and maintainable architectures and designs.
  • Collaborate extensively across multiple disciplines from hardware designers to ML developers.
  • Identify requirements, scope solutions, estimate work, and schedule deliverables.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring of software engineers.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate must possess:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline AND 8+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
  • OR equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years of software development experience.
  • 8+ years of experience with C/C++.
  • 8+ years of technical leadership experience in a software team.

Compensation

The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $161,600 - $286,200 per year. In the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is USD $209,600 - $314,400 per year. Certain roles may be eligible for additional benefits and compensation.
