Horticulture Extension Manager

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Horticulture Extension Manager to join our team at Navajo Technical University. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing horticulture and agriculture programs that support the overall goals of the university.

• Develop and manage grant proposals to secure funding for horticulture and agriculture programs.
• Plan, implement, and evaluate community needs assessments and program evaluations.
• Develop and deliver educational programs and workshops on horticulture and agriculture topics.
• Collaborate with local schools, community organizations, and government agencies to promote horticulture and agriculture education.
• Manage a propagation greenhouse and teach workshops on gardening and related topics.
• Supervise student workers and volunteers in the greenhouse and garden mentorship programs.
• Develop and maintain relationships with local farmers, gardeners, and other stakeholders to promote horticulture and agriculture in the community.
• Stay up-to-date with the latest research and best practices in horticulture and agriculture.

• Master's degree in Horticulture, Agronomy, Soil Science, or a related field.
• At least 3 years of experience in horticulture and agriculture education and outreach.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel.

• Ph.D. in Horticulture, Agronomy, or a related field.
• Experience in grant writing and management.
• Experience in program evaluation and assessment.
• Fluency in multiple languages.

The Horticulture Extension Manager will work in a fast-paced environment with multiple demands and tight deadlines. The position requires the ability to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The successful candidate will be able to lift up to 50 pounds and work in a variety of weather conditions.
