Position Summary:
The Electrical Protection Systems Engineer will play a crucial role in the design and operation of protection and control systems essential for the secure and efficient functioning of transmission and distribution networks. This role involves collaborating with various stakeholders to ensure that our engineering solutions align with the operational goals of our clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess and approve modifications to existing electrical infrastructure to guarantee compliance with established protection system standards.
- Design new Protection and Control systems that adhere to client specifications.
- Specify necessary materials for new or updated Protection and Control systems for designated projects.
- Calculate and document settings and logic for protective devices to enhance system reliability.
- Conduct coordination studies by modeling electric system components and their protective systems using simulation software.
- Analyze protection system performance during disturbances to support technical event analysis.
- Collaborate with Planning, Operations, and Field teams to facilitate effective transmission and distribution system management.
- Work independently while managing project timelines and deliverables.
- Review and validate designs and relay settings produced by team members.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in Protection and Control engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred.
- Familiarity with QA/QC processes, AutoCAD, and SEL software.
- Experience with relay system protection standards and practices.
- Proficiency in performing coordination studies using modeling software.
- Experience in post-event analysis using relay and digital fault recorder data.
- Ability to prepare and modify schematics and wiring diagrams.
