Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Respiratory Therapist to join our team at Lifespan. As a Respiratory Therapist, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care and education to inpatient and outpatient populations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer therapeutic treatments in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Perform arterial blood gas (ABG) drawing and analysis, as well as pulmonary function testing and six-minute walk tests.
  • Provide patient education on respiratory treatments and therapies.
  • Identify and administer the correct therapy or diagnostic care to patients.
  • Maintain equipment in a functional and sanitary condition.
  • Operate and maintain mechanical ventilators.
  • Respond to emergency situations and ensure adequate ventilation during cardiopulmonary resuscitation or other respiratory crisis.
  • Report to the oncoming shift concisely and completely.
  • Incorporate all appropriate events and observations into the patient's record.
  • Strictly obey hospital infection control and isolation procedures.
  • Assimilate all new orders for respiratory procedures into the assigned daily work.
  • Appropriately triage therapy assignments to ensure critical therapy is completed.
  • Clean and maintain equipment and work areas.
  • Maintain the technical capability to assess patients' respiratory status based on age-related categories.
  • Fulfill the Charge Therapist role fairly and effectively.
  • Perform assigned in-service education, performance improvement, or policy revision tasks.
  • Report notable deterioration or improvement in a patient's condition to nurses and physicians.
  • Maintain an understanding of current projects, events, and policies by attending department staff meetings or monitoring electronic messaging.
  • Perform all airway management, including placement of a laryngeal mask airway (LMA) and endotracheal intubation using direct and video visualization techniques.

Required Qualifications
  • Be responsible for ongoing development of work skills through available resources.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and in-services, and/or review documentation as required.
  • Assist in the orientation of others and actively participate in mentoring.
  • Perform analytical and decision-making functions with minimal supervision.
  • Recognize and seek assistance/consultation when appropriate.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of relative Hospital and all-departmental policies and procedures, including safety issues.
  • Possess awareness of programs/services provided by Hospital and where they are located.
Education
  • Certification by the National Board of Respiratory Care.
  • License in Respiratory Care by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • BLS Certification.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Registration by the National Board of Respiratory Care.
  • BS in Respiratory Care or related field.
  • ACLS and NPR preferred.
