Respiratory Therapist

We are seeking a skilled Respiratory Therapist to join our team at Lifespan. As a Respiratory Therapist, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care and education to inpatient and outpatient populations.
Key Responsibilities- Administer therapeutic treatments in a timely and efficient manner.
- Perform arterial blood gas (ABG) drawing and analysis, as well as pulmonary function testing and six-minute walk tests.
- Provide patient education on respiratory treatments and therapies.
- Identify and administer the correct therapy or diagnostic care to patients.
- Maintain equipment in a functional and sanitary condition.
- Operate and maintain mechanical ventilators.
- Respond to emergency situations and ensure adequate ventilation during cardiopulmonary resuscitation or other respiratory crisis.
- Report to the oncoming shift concisely and completely.
- Incorporate all appropriate events and observations into the patient's record.
- Strictly obey hospital infection control and isolation procedures.
- Assimilate all new orders for respiratory procedures into the assigned daily work.
- Appropriately triage therapy assignments to ensure critical therapy is completed.
- Clean and maintain equipment and work areas.
- Maintain the technical capability to assess patients' respiratory status based on age-related categories.
- Fulfill the Charge Therapist role fairly and effectively.
- Perform assigned in-service education, performance improvement, or policy revision tasks.
- Report notable deterioration or improvement in a patient's condition to nurses and physicians.
- Maintain an understanding of current projects, events, and policies by attending department staff meetings or monitoring electronic messaging.
- Perform all airway management, including placement of a laryngeal mask airway (LMA) and endotracheal intubation using direct and video visualization techniques.
- Complete work assignments within an acceptable time frame.
- Use time and resources to the best possible advantage for successful completion of job responsibilities.
- Develop and maintain efficient working relationships.
- Be reliable in respect to attendance and punctuality.
- Recognize the importance of team efforts and partner with others to achieve positive outcomes.
- Be part of a team effort to ensure quality services.
- Offer creative solutions or alternatives to issues or concerns.
- Produce quality results.
- Continually strive to improve the quality of work.
- Accept responsibility for all work performed and take appropriate corrective action as needed.
- Be responsible for ongoing development of work skills through available resources.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings and in-services, and/or review documentation as required.
- Assist in the orientation of others and actively participate in mentoring.
- Perform analytical and decision-making functions with minimal supervision.
- Recognize and seek assistance/consultation when appropriate.
- Demonstrate an understanding of relative Hospital and all-departmental policies and procedures, including safety issues.
- Possess awareness of programs/services provided by Hospital and where they are located.
- Certification by the National Board of Respiratory Care.
- License in Respiratory Care by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
- BLS Certification.
- Registration by the National Board of Respiratory Care.
- BS in Respiratory Care or related field.
- ACLS and NPR preferred.
