Job Summary

The Registered Nurse is responsible for providing direct nursing care to residents and supervising the day-to-day nursing activities performed by nursing assistants. This role requires adherence to federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern our Community.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Direct the day-to-day functions of nursing assistants in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Ensure all nursing personnel comply with written policies and procedures established by the Community.
  • Meet with nursing staff and support personnel to plan shifts' services, programs, and activities.
  • Make written and oral reports/recommendations concerning shift activities as required.
  • Cooperate with other resident services to ensure total regimen of care is maintained.
  • Ensure all nursing service personnel are in compliance with their respective job descriptions.
  • Participate in Community surveys and inspections made by authorized government agencies as requested.
  • Periodically review resident's written discharge plan and participate in updating as required.
  • Interpret department's policies and procedures to personnel, residents, visitors, and government agencies as required.
  • Administer professional services such as catheterization, tube feedings, suction, applying and changing dressings/bandages, packs, colostomy, and drainage bags, taking blood, giving massages and range of motion exercises, care for the dead/dying, etc., as required.
  • Perform lab tests, blood pressures, and other routine monitored as required per resident care plan.
  • Admit, transfer, and discharge residents as required.
  • Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting, etc., as necessary.
  • Encourage attending physicians to review treatment plans, record and sign their orders, progress notes, etc., in accordance with established policies.
  • Receive telephone orders from physicians and transcribe on the Physicians' Order Form.
  • Chart nursing notes in an informative and descriptive manner that reflects the care provided to the resident, as well as the resident's response to the care.
  • Complete accident/incident reports per Community policy. Submit to RCC or Unit Manager.
  • Develop and maintain a good working rapport with co-workers and other departments within the Community.
  • Review complaints and grievances. Report these to the RCC and/or Unit Manager.
  • Nurse report must be given and received when coming on and off each shift.

Job Requirements:

  • Must have a valid professional license (RN) that is in good standing with the State.
  • Must have basic computer skills.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Must be able to work beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary.
  • Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
  • Must be able to perform the essential position functions of the job with, or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Employee is required to use a transfer/gait belt or to obtain the assistance of another employee when attempting to assist residents when lifting or carrying objects in excess of 25 pounds.
