About the Job

This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity to join the State of North Carolina as a Deputy Clerk in the Clerk of Superior Court office. As a Deputy Clerk, you will play a vital role in supporting the administration of justice in Lenoir County.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process Cash Receipts: Accurately process cash receipts and maintain accurate financial records.
  • Review and Prepare Cases: Review, prepare, and process criminal and civil cases, including misdemeanors, infractions, divorce, child custody, and juvenile cases.
  • Maintain Case Files: Establish and maintain case files for adoptions, determinations of incompetency, foreclosures, motor vehicle liens, and other types of cases.
  • Provide Sensitive Information: Provide sensitive information for juvenile casework to attorneys, Guardians ad Litem (GAL), the Department of Social Services (DSS), and the Department of Public Safety (DPS).
  • Administer Estates: Administer estates of the deceased and explain procedures to family members and other authorized representatives.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent: A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Professional Experience: Preference will be given to applicants with professional experience working in a courthouse or law office.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of NC general statutes, policies and procedures related to the local judicial district, civil proceedings, and juvenile proceedings is required. Additionally, skills in basic math, active listening, managing a high volume of public interaction, and effective communication are necessary.
