KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Lead the strategic direction of the North American Import/Export division and Sales, focusing on product education, inventory management, and lead time optimization.
  • Develop, implement, and enforce company policies and procedures related to international trade.
  • Innovate solutions, address challenges, and engage in strategies to enhance import/export sales.
  • Negotiate contracts with vendors, international clients, and freight service providers.
  • Gather, organize, and disseminate information regarding product availability, pricing, and technical specifications from international suppliers.
  • Manage relationships and ensure compliance with vendors, forwarders, customs brokers, and internal teams, facilitating communication between foreign partners and Glen-Gery/Brickworks.
  • Collaborate with the Pricing department to conduct annual reviews of import/export costs, quotations, and shipment bookings to optimize profitability.
  • Oversee the processing of purchase orders and logistics arrangements for imports and exports, ensuring accurate tracking of order availability and shipping containers.
  • Supervise tariff classifications and compliance audits.
  • Ensure adherence to licenses, contracts, and agreements.
  • Maintain compliance with import documentation and retention protocols, including audits of Entry Summaries and freight forwarder invoices.
  • Prepare and review export documentation such as Proforma, SLI, Packing List, CI, COO, and updates to the BSM software system.
  • Process and review invoices from foreign vendors and freight companies, approving them for payment.
  • Coordinate with warehouses on storage planning, container deliveries, and verification of container contents against packing lists.
  • Monitor the quality and consistency of all imported products, addressing any discrepancies.
  • Manage stock takes and participate in inventory control, including the management of aged inventory.
  • Respond to inquiries from the sales department and provide training to customer service teams regarding import products.
  • Develop solutions for import product complaints.
  • Engage in industry forums to stay informed about trends and developments.
  • Generate monthly reports, including invoice registers, price exceptions, and sales volume trends.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Willingness to travel domestically and occasionally internationally, up to 50% of the time.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and job-specific software applications.
  • Strong understanding of global supply chains, ocean, and air freight, along with compliance with laws governing international trade.
  • Ability to interpret foreign currencies and units of measurement.
  • Familiarity with tariff code determination and record retention.
  • Proactive in addressing vendor or freight forwarder needs and resolving issues efficiently.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • 6-10 years of experience in import/export compliance and logistics, with a preference for candidates with 4+ years in a leadership role.
  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant business field is preferred.
