Job Summary

As a key member of the Obstetrical Nursing team at Emerson Hospital, the Lactation Consultant plays a vital role in supporting breastfeeding women and families in achieving their goals. This expert professional sets the standard for breastfeeding education and techniques within the hospital, ensuring that all staff members are equipped to provide high-quality care.

Responsibilities
  • Meet with breastfeeding women and families to assess their needs and develop personalized plans to achieve their breastfeeding goals.
  • Provide expert guidance and education on breastfeeding techniques, addressing any challenges or concerns that may arise.
  • Collaborate with the Obstetrical Nursing team to ensure seamless care and support for breastfeeding families.
  • Develop and implement breastfeeding education programs for hospital staff, promoting best practices and evidence-based care.
Requirements
  • High school diploma required; graduate of an accredited nursing school preferred.
  • Minimum of three to five years of experience working with childbearing families or maternal health nursing.
  • IBLC certification required; BLS healthcare provider certification also required.
  • Licensure in professional nursing in Massachusetts preferred.
Skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong teaching and education skills.
  • Proficiency in computer skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.
