The Transportation Safety Team is dedicated to providing training and support, ensuring adherence to company policies and federal/state regulations, and conducting thorough investigations, reviews, and recommendations regarding accidents and citations.

As a Transportation Safety Manager, you will lead frontline operations across various locations. Your primary focus will be on reviewing and resolving accidents and citations, as well as ensuring compliance with regulatory and policy standards.

What will your responsibilities include?

Safety / Compliance:

  • Leading a team of Transportation Safety Specialists to conduct comprehensive accident/citation reviews, investigations, and recommendations to align with H-E-B policies
  • Collaborating primarily with Safety Department Partners, drivers, and operational leadership
  • Identifying potential transportation safety concerns arising from regulatory changes
  • Facilitating company-sponsored driver competitions at various levels
  • Attending transportation and driver-related seminars, conferences, and competitions
  • Participating in ongoing education on safety, OSHA, transportation topics, and skill enhancement
  • Providing support and responding to accidents, weather events, or other emergencies involving Transportation
  • Conducting accident investigations/reconstructions to ascertain contributing factors in incidents involving state, local, and federal authorities
  • Communicating findings and recommendations from accident investigations to leadership
  • Engaging in the driver accident/citation appeal process
  • Upholding H-E-B safety policies; ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
  • Monitoring driver qualification files for accuracy and compliance
  • Ensuring drug and alcohol testing is conducted in accordance with company and legal guidelines
  • Performing driver citation reviews/audits using motor carrier profiles from USDOT, TXDPS
  • Acting as a liaison for all federal, state, and local officials
  • Collaborating with Operations leadership on permissible driver hours per federal regulations

Training / Customer Service:

  • Developing and implementing innovative transportation safety plans and educational programs; reviewing them for quality, content, compliance, and consistency
  • Conducting regular safety meetings with drivers and Transportation operations leadership
  • Representing H-E-B in state and local safety/transportation organizations
  • Serving as a liaison between Transportation and Store operations
What is your background?

  • A relevant degree or equivalent formal training, certification, or work experience
  • At least 3 years of experience in a transportation or law enforcement safety-related field
  • Experience in delivering presentations to cross-functional teams
  • Proficiency in process improvement analysis and review
  • Completion of or current certification from an approved safety/compliance organization
Do you have the qualifications to excel as a Safety Manager for H-E-B Transportation?

  • Advanced knowledge of federal/state motor carrier regulations, including OSHA, DOT, state, and EPA
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Intermediate proficiency in PC skills, including MS Office
  • Decision-making, reasoning, and analytical capabilities

  • Capacity to manage multiple priorities and shift focus between tasks; attention to detail
