Job Summary

Torrance Memorial Medical Center is seeking a Clinical Laboratory Scientist Generalist I FT Evening to join our team. As a Clinical Laboratory Scientist, you will be responsible for performing moderate and high complexity testing per CLIA regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory tests according to written laboratory procedure, evaluate test results for accuracy and clinical significance, and report test results.
  • Monitor test analyses and specimen examinations to ensure acceptable levels of analytic performance are maintained.
  • Ensure that all remedial actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.
  • Ensure that patient test results are not reported until all corrective actions have been taken and test systems are properly functioning.
  • Maintain records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.
  • Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance performed.
  • Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.
  • Perform clerical and computer-related documentation accurately.
  • Prioritize and coordinate work to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency.
  • Use the appropriate hand-off communication techniques (SBAR) when appropriate.
  • Assist in training of new employees.
  • Demonstrate an active problem-solving attitude and positive approach to all aspects of the job.
  • Maintain a safe work area by observing all safety procedures and reporting any unsafe conditions or practices to the appropriate personnel.
  • Participate in hospital performance improvement activities (kaizens, lean initiatives) when appropriate.

Department Specific Responsibilities

  • Dispense blood and blood products to nursing personnel according to Blood Bank policies and procedures.
  • Issue tissue products and derivatives to personnel according to Blood Bank policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to the department's policies and procedures for the manufacturing and labeling of blood products in compliance with FDA's current good manufacturing practice regulations.
  • Read and interpret stained smears.
  • Set up and report molecular identification.

Requirements

  • Meets CLIA General Supervisor, High Complexity Testing requirements.
  • California Clinical Laboratory Scientist Trainee License acceptable upon completion of California-approved training program at time of hire.
  • State License must be acquired within six months.

Compensation

$77.97 per hour
