About the Role

The Operations Manager - Power Plant Operations is a critical leadership position responsible for overseeing the day-to-day activities of the power plant operations team. This individual will ensure the continued operation of the power generation facility in compliance with established safety and environmental regulations and procedures, production schedules, output requirements, and contractual obligations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the activities of the power plant operations staff, ensuring the continued operation of boilers, turbine-generator, and all auxiliary equipment at a level of efficiency necessary to achieve maximum power generation output while maintaining all federal and state environmental standards.
  • Support the development and implementation of safety and environmental policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and implement process improvements, optimize production schedules, and enhance overall plant performance.
  • Ensure that shift supervisors are adhering to all company, state, and federal policies and procedures concerning environmental parameters, safety, housekeeping, and employee relations.
  • Lead improvement teams, network with professional organizations, and maintain strong connections to regional and corporate maintenance and technical groups.
  • Document daily production and capacity, providing reports to the Facility Operations Manager and to the Solid Waste Authority daily.
  • Accompany representatives of the Solid Waste Authority on weekly plant inspection tours, responding to discrepancies as required.
  • Review daily logs of shift activities, operator logs, and system check sheets daily.
  • Monitor maintenance work requests and review work order backlogs with the Power Plant Maintenance Superintendent.
  • Participate in outage planning, scheduling support manpower, ordering materials and supplies as needed.
  • Monitor usage and supply levels of materials and chemicals needed to operate the plant, requisitioning additional supplies as needed.
  • Maintain work schedules for all operating shifts, providing continuous coverage of each position.
  • Ensure the department's safety awareness and compliance with plant safety policies and procedures, attending and participating in weekly shift safety meetings conducted by the shift supervisors.
  • Oversee the maintenance of a clean, safe, and orderly facility, enforcing housekeeping standards.
  • Provide annual written performance appraisals for each shift supervisor.
  • Conduct formal training sessions in power plant operations and ensure adequate training for all operators.
  • Oversee employee relations activities within the department, recommending and reviewing corrective action procedures, and participating in their administration.
Requirements and Qualifications:
  • Five or more years of experience in the operation of power plant equipment and systems, at least 2 of which were in a supervisory role with full supervisor responsibilities.
  • Minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be able to speak, read, and write in English.
  • Must be respirator fit qualified.
  • Must be ASME/QRO Certified and must be able to obtain site-specific Chief Operator Certification within 6 months.
  • Must have a complete understanding of all power plant equipment and systems, with extensive work experience in a power generation facility, preferably in a management or supervisory capacity.
Physical Demands:
  • Ability to walk, stand, sit, and climb ladders.
  • Ability to lift/carry 50lbs.
  • Ability to work from heights and in confined spaces.
  • Qualify to wear a full-face respirator.
  • Consistently work in various weather conditions.
