Job Title:
Medical Office Specialist

About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Office Specialist to join our team at Saginaw County Community Mental Health Authority. As a Medical Office Specialist, you will play a critical role in providing access, intake, and crisis response for adults and children with mental illness, emotional disturbance, developmental disability, and co-occurring substance use disorders.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide access, intake, and crisis response for adults and children with mental illness, emotional disturbance, developmental disability, and co-occurring substance use disorders.
  • Complete intake assessments to determine eligibility for services.
  • Work with Care Management to facilitate consumer assignment to treatment teams that best meet the needs of the consumer.
  • Provide short-term clinical interventions to stabilize consumers in the office and/or community.
  • Collaborate with multi-departmental teams to achieve shared performance goals related to access, customer satisfaction, and risk management.

Requirements:
  • Master's degree in a mental health-related field from an accredited school.
  • Valid Michigan driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Must have or obtain a certification in substance abuse treatment specialist area.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of post-degree experience in the human service field.
  • Knowledge of community mental health system and resources available within the Saginaw County area.
  • Ability to present in a professional manner and work effectively with professionals from different organizations.
  • Ability to work well with individuals of different racial and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Ability to engage with consumers and the public in a welcoming and engaging manner.
  • Understanding of the philosophy that all persons should receive services in the least restrictive setting.
  • Ability to develop plans utilizing a person/family-centered process.
  • Ability to remain calm in urgent situations.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and complete work in a timely fashion.
  • Ability to be flexible and creative in plan development.
  • Ability to achieve CAFAS reliability.
  • Computer skills adequate to perform all work in an electronic medical record and communicate regularly through the use of email.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and maintain appropriate professional boundaries.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Ability to accept and implement constructive supervision.
