Job Title: Transportation Service Technician

Job Summary:

This is a skilled mechanical position responsible for the maintenance and repair of automotive transportation and other light vehicles operated by the East Baton Rouge Parish School System.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Services and repairs automobiles, buses, trucks, and other motorized equipment, including servicing, preventive maintenance, and component repair or overhaul.
  • Repairs and replaces broken springs, stop signals, door opening mechanisms, and minor body and fender repairs.
  • Performs tasks such as grinding valves, setting tappets, adjusting and lining brakes, repairing universal joints, steering gears, and hydraulic brake systems.
  • Performs road tests on vehicles after repair and basic diagnostic testing as necessary.
  • Makes service calls to disabled vehicles in the field and documents repairs on work orders.
Requirements:
  • Completion of a standard high school, trade, or vocational school course(s) or any equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Considerable experience in repairing automotive, medium truck, or school bus equipment in a general garage or automotive service station.
  • Skill in the operation of simple equipment employed in motor repairs.
  • Considerable knowledge of standard practices and equipment of the automotive mechanic trade and knowledge of the principles of operation of gasoline and diesel engines and of mechanical repairs on buses and vehicles.
  • Must have sufficient automotive mechanical experience to pass the required maintenance test and a valid driver's license.
  • Valid or ability to obtain a Louisiana CDL license preferred.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be proficient in general use of a computer, the use of Email as a form of communication, and other job-specific equipment, software, and/or applications.
