Position Overview
The Medical Laboratory Technologist plays a crucial role in the healthcare team by utilizing specialized laboratory skills to conduct and report on defined laboratory tests, ensuring optimal patient care and outcomes. This position is essential for maintaining the integrity of laboratory operations and is subject to shift work, including potential overtime and on-call duties.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately receives, identifies, organizes, and prioritizes specimens to facilitate timely and precise test processing.
- Conducts and reports on a variety of laboratory procedures as requested.
- Implements quality control measures, participates in proficiency testing, and performs routine maintenance on laboratory instruments while managing inventory effectively.
- Ensures positive patient identification to minimize errors and enhance patient safety.
- Analyzes data, assesses results, and draws appropriate conclusions to support clinical decisions.
- Engages in continuous professional development and lifelong learning.
- Meets and completes assigned performance goals and objectives.
Qualifications
Experience:
- Preferred: Previous experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
- Minimum: Completion of an accredited Medical Technology program is required.
Licensure and Certification:
- Minimum: Temporary state licensure and/or national certification in accordance with current regulations. Full licensure must be achieved within six months of employment.
Skills:
- Basic computer proficiency is essential.
