Job Summary

As a critical care registered nurse at the Cleveland Clinic, you will be responsible for providing direct nursing care to patients in the intensive care unit. This role requires a high level of critical thinking, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a stressful environment.

Responsibilities
  • Provides direct nursing care to patients in the intensive care unit, implementing and monitoring patient care plans as needed.
  • Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate, ensuring timely and effective care.
  • Evaluates and updates patient care plans to facilitate achievement of planned and expected outcomes.
  • Serves as a primary coordinator of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care, ensuring seamless communication and collaboration.
  • Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing protocol, prioritizing patient safety and well-being.
  • Notes and carries out physician and nursing orders, ensuring accurate and timely implementation.
  • Assesses and coordinates patient discharge planning needs with members of the healthcare team, ensuring a smooth transition to post-acute care.
  • Provides teaching and educational material to patients and significant others, considering cultural issues and other special concerns.
  • Validates and documents patient and family understanding of teaching, ensuring effective communication and education.
  • Maintains professional growth and development through ongoing formal and informal education and clinical nursing study, staying up-to-date with the latest evidence-based practices.

Requirements
  • Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing, with a BSN preferred.
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Proof of Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA) must be presented upon hire.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA) certification is required for Critical Care areas, with a one-year timeframe for completion.
  • ONS Chemo/Bio course completion within two years of hire for units where chemotherapy is administered.
  • Physical requirements include full range of body motion, standing and walking for extended periods, and working under stressful conditions with irregular hours.

Work Environment
  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.

Personal Protective Equipment
  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
