Job Summary

The Lead Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) is a full-time position at Community of Hope, a mission-driven nonprofit organization providing healthcare, housing, and supportive services to under-resourced and underserved individuals in Washington, DC.

The successful candidate will provide direct, team-based clinical care to patients, meeting clinical standards, within the appropriate scope of practice. This includes managing the care of women and their newborns, providing direct client services, and consulting with physicians as needed.

The Lead CNM will report to the Associate Director of Midwifery and supervise a team of Nurse Midwives. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in maternal and child health, with experience in both hospital and out-of-hospital births.

Community of Hope offers a competitive salary range of $110,000 - $115,000 annually, as well as a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision plans, life insurance, and a 403(b) retirement plan.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct, team-based clinical care to patients, meeting clinical standards, within the appropriate scope of practice.
  • Manage the care of women and their newborns, including antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, newborn, family planning, and gynecological care.
  • Consult with physicians as needed, and co-manage with physicians the care of women who develop complications.
  • Plan and provide continuing health supervision and education to all clients under their care.
  • Consult with and refer to other members of the healthcare team and community resources as indicated.
  • Participate in quality management activities, including peer review.
  • Precept midwifery students and nurse practitioner students during their community medicine rotations.
  • Stay current with ongoing training and CMEs as required for licensing.
Requirements
  • Current license as a Nurse-Midwife in the District of Columbia required.
  • National Certification as Certified Nurse Midwife required.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience with both hospital and out-of-hospital births; experience with 40 or more births preferred.
  • Current BLS certification (ACLS or BLS for the Healthcare Provider or equivalent) required.
  • Current neonatal resuscitation certification (NALS or NRP or equivalent) required.
  • Participation in appropriate continuous medical education required.
  • Commitment to working with the underserved.
  • Ability to work in a non-profit environment.
