Position Summary

This role is essential in supporting the clinical team by executing a range of responsibilities for patients within the professional scope of a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Paramedic. The position operates under the guidance of a Registered Nurse (RN) or physician, ensuring a patient-centered care approach. Additionally, this role involves scheduling, financial clearance, and pre-registration of patients via phone communication.

The individual will administer hyperbaric oxygen therapy and conduct diagnostic assessments for patients at the Wound Care Center, under the supervision of a Certified Hyperbaric Registered Nurse or a Board Certified Hyperbaric Registered Physician. The position also includes providing support in the Wound Care Center during the absence of the Hyperbaric Registered Nurse, with all therapeutic and diagnostic procedures being directed by the Hyperbaric Physician.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Care:
  • Engage actively in patient care while ensuring a safe and comforting atmosphere.
  • Respond promptly to patient needs.
  • Facilitate patient transport as necessary.
  • Welcome patients and ensure all admission documentation is complete, actively participating in the admission process.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as meals, bathing, and hygiene.
  • Support in positioning and transferring patients between beds, chairs, wheelchairs, or stretchers.
  • Assist with range of motion exercises and ambulation.
  • Conduct Cardiac Rehabilitation exercises according to established protocols.
  • Timely report any abnormal conditions to the RN.
  • Help maintain skin integrity using emollients and creams, caring for superficial skin injuries under RN direction.
  • Understand the organization of the human body, including its systems and functions.
  • Exhibit general cleanliness principles (asepsis).
  • Apply basic nutritional principles to patient care.
  • Provide fundamental emergency care.
  • Perform Point of Care procedures in accordance with established policies, documenting necessary information and adhering to quality control standards.
  • Actively gather information from patients' healthcare providers and insurance pre-certification.
  • Explain procedures and address questions regarding patient care and scheduled activities.
  • Identify, report, and document changes resulting from disease or trauma across various body systems.
  • Capably apply simple dressings and assist RN/MD with more complex dressing changes.
  • Conduct accurate and thorough medication reconciliation.
  • Update the patient's medical record comprehensively at each visit, including allergies, hospitalizations, and surgeries, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in the electronic medical record system.
  • Document immunizations for Flu and Pneumonia.
  • Perform 12-lead EKGs.
  • Obtain weight and essential patient information.
  • Conduct phlebotomy and blood glucose monitoring.
  • Travel to outreach satellite clinics as required.
  • Perform clerical tasks as needed.
Qualifications
  • Education: Completion of an accredited Practical Nurse or Paramedic program is required.
  • Licensure/Certification: For LPNs - Current state licensure as a Practical Nurse or licensure from a state within the Nursing Compact is required. For Paramedics - appropriate licensure by the state of Arkansas. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required at the time of employment.
  • Experience: No prior experience is necessary. A minimum of 6 months of continuous experience as an LPN or Paramedic is preferred.
