Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Veterinary Technician to join our Animal Resource Core team at Nationwide Children's Hospital. As a key member of our team, you will provide high-quality veterinary care and technical support for research protocols.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess and treat animal health conditions, providing technical support for research protocols.
  • Assist during surgical, imaging, and diagnostics procedures, demonstrating a basic understanding of injectable and inhalant anesthesia, airway maintenance, anesthetic monitoring, and emergency intervention.
  • Provide and follow up on treatments as prescribed or delegated by a veterinarian or senior veterinary technician.
  • Assist the Veterinary Team Lead in duties assigned, including preparation, cleanup, and maintenance of supplies and equipment in surgical and research areas.
  • Provide weekend husbandry and veterinary care on a rotational basis, ensuring accurate, timely, and complete documentation of animal clinical case records.
  • Communicate with husbandry and research staff on animal health conditions, maintaining a collaborative and inclusive environment.
Requirements
  • Bachelor or Associate degree in a relevant subject (biology, animal sciences, etc.) is required; a degree in veterinary technology is preferred.
  • ALAT/LAT or RVT certification is preferred.
  • Ability to administer vaccinations, perform phlebotomy, and handle, dose, and obtain biologic samples from rats, mice, and large animals.
  • Knowledge of federal animal welfare regulations and AAALAC accreditation standards.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work as a team member and independently.
Working Conditions

The workload will be heavy but manageable most of the time, with pressure arising due to deadlines associated with research type, personnel availabilities, and constraints around investigative staff's clinical and other commitments.
