Job Summary

The Housekeeping Aid is a vital member of the VETERANS HEALTH ADMINISTRATION team, responsible for maintaining a clean and safe environment for patients and staff. This role requires a high level of attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities
  • Execute a full range of housekeeping activities in patient and non-patient care areas, including cleaning, disinfecting, and deodorizing surfaces and equipment.
  • Perform floor maintenance, wall washing, and cleaning of doors, doorframes, baseboard corners, and edges.
  • Empty trash and wastebaskets, and replenish supplies of paper towels, toilet paper, hand sanitizers, and soap.
  • Clean restrooms, bathrooms, and shower rooms, ensuring they meet acceptable standards.
  • Provide bed-making services in patient care areas and clean mattresses, springs, and bed frames.
  • Remove bags of soiled textiles from patient rooms and transport them to the designated soiled room.
  • Load and unload clean textiles from bulk carts and restock clean textile closets, cabinets, shelves, and carts.
  • Defrost and clean patient care refrigerators and ice machines in nourishment kitchen areas.
  • Clean stainless steel on storage instrument cabinets and counters, elevators in lobbies, wards, diet-kitchens, and nurse utility rooms.
  • Provide interim cleaning of windows and window ledges from the inside, clean glass door and other glass surfaces, and replace curtains and clean blinds.
  • Clean and/or replace needle boxes, and periodically clean specific non-critical Reusable Medical Equipment (RME) in inpatient and clinical areas.
  • Work with and provide guidance to a Compensated Work Therapy (CWT) worker, and perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen to apply for this job.
  • Must be able to pass a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
  • Must be able to serve a probationary period.
  • Must be able to pass a background/security investigation.
  • Must be able to complete an online onboarding process.
  • Must be able to participate in the seasonal influenza vaccination program.
  • Must be able to participate in the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination program.
Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/11/2024. Experience: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position.

Work Environment

The position demands continuous walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, pulling, and pushing. The work requires the occasional use of heavy powered cleaning equipment weighing over 50 pounds. The duties necessitate considerable dexterity, hand, foot, and eye coordination, and concentration as well as visual acuity to see dirt, dust, and debris.
