Practical Nursing Specialist

Overview:
This announcement serves as a Direct Hire Open Continuous Announcement (OCA) for the Practical Nursing Specialist positions within the Indian Health Service.
The role is situated in the Outpatient nursing unit of the healthcare facility. The Practical Nursing Specialist executes a range of nursing responsibilities that necessitate specialized and non-standard procedural knowledge and skills pertinent to the diagnosis and management of various injuries and medical conditions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of patient needs through nursing functions, which include interviewing patients and their families, reviewing medical histories, and documenting all findings.
- Share the responsibility for maintaining accurate patient records, noting observations related to patient conditions, nursing interventions, and patient responses.
- Deliver age-appropriate care and treatment to all patients, monitoring vital signs and reporting any adverse symptoms as necessary.
- When certified, administer medications under the guidance of a registered nurse, which may include oral, subcutaneous, and intravenous routes.
- Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager, take on the role of team leader, overseeing unit activities.
Employment Conditions:
- Candidates must successfully pass a pre-employment examination.
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Selective Service Registration is mandatory for males born after a specific date.
- This position involves contact with Indian children, necessitating a thorough background check for any disqualifying offenses.
Qualifications:
- Candidates must be currently licensed to practice as practical or vocational nurses in a State or territory of the United States or the District of Columbia, or must have applied for such a license.
- Experience must demonstrate the ability to perform intermediate nursing care tasks, including monitoring patient behavior, executing nursing procedures, and providing patient education.
