The Lead Software Performance Tester acts as a performance advisor for our engineering teams. This role involves collaborating with key stakeholders such as Product Managers and Architects to grasp performance requirements and challenges; aiding in the design of performance environments; evaluating production performance characteristics; and empowering teams to effectively identify performance risks and convert these risks into performance testing scenarios.
This position reports directly to the Vice-President of Quality and offers a remote work opportunity.
Your impact will be significant:
- Establish and uphold standards for performance testing requirements through collaboration with other engineering resources.
- Guide teams on application performance testing expectations, create plans to address capability gaps, and track progress in closing these gaps.
- Utilize tools such as Application Insights to analyze production performance metrics, identifying areas of concern and opportunities for enhancement.
- Contribute to the development of a suite of performance test scripts to be executed regularly, ensuring ongoing compliance with performance standards.
- Evaluate test results from release performance testing to determine adherence to standards, consult with teams on improvement areas, and document findings.
- Collaborate with teams to ascertain if test harnesses are necessary for performance testing and design and build them as required.
- Provide continuous education to the organization and act as an advocate for performance testing within the engineering domain.
- Conduct root cause analysis sessions on historical or current performance issues and formulate plans to address any identified gaps in organizational processes.
- Mentor new team members in performance testing tools, techniques, and methodologies.
What you bring to the role:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, MIS, Math, or a related field, or graduation from a Technical School in a compatible discipline.
- Over 5 years of progressive experience in performance testing, including strategy development, mentoring junior associates, writing performance scripts, and analyzing performance metrics.
- More than 5 years of proven experience in performance automation using industry-standard tools such as JMeter, K6, LoadRunner, NeoLoad, etc.
- At least 3 years of programming experience in languages such as C#, Java, Ruby, Python, etc.
- Demonstrated experience with performance analytics software like Application Insights, Perfmon, App Dynamics, etc.
- Solid understanding of web technologies and architectures, including HTTP, SOAP, REST, JSON, etc.
- Familiarity with networking concepts and basic database querying.
- Detail-oriented with a project and task-focused mindset.
- Preferred skills include experience with scripting tools like PowerShell and familiarity with Agile scrum development methodologies.
Additional Information:
- This is a full-time, exempt position.
- Relocation assistance is not available for this role.
- Visa sponsorship is not currently offered.
The salary range for this position is between $98,000 and $182,000, and it includes eligibility for a bonus as part of the overall compensation package.
Base pay may vary based on factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and geographic location. The Total Rewards package includes competitive base pay and access to a variety of benefits, typically including health insurance, flexible spending accounts, health savings accounts, retirement savings plans, life and disability insurance programs, and several options for both paid and unpaid time off.
