Job Description

As a Peer Program Specialist at ACMH, Inc., you will play a vital role in supporting individuals in their mental health recovery journey. Your primary responsibility will be to provide direct service to clients in their homes, assisting with training in skills of daily living.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Teaching skills for maintaining personal hygiene, laundry, and apartment cleaning.
  • Monitoring overall maintenance of apartments and alerting the program director of maintenance problems.
  • Teaching skills for budgeting, shopping, meal planning, preparation, and clean-up.
  • Teaching skills for self-preservation, monitoring living units for safety and cleanliness.
  • Administering the client cooking safety test.
  • Monitoring, documenting, and teaching self-administration of medication, according to program policy and procedures.
  • Reporting incidents or behavioral changes in residents to the supervisor.
  • Teaching travel skills and escorting clients, where needed.
  • Facilitating/co-facilitating groups, as requested.
  • Documenting services rendered and client progress in a timely manner.
  • Assisting in building self-advocacy skills to effectively communicate with clients' supports and treatment teams.
  • Supporting recovery skill-building goals to decrease frequency of contact with emergency services.
  • Attending training and other duties as assigned by supervisory staff.

Qualifications:

  • Lived experience receiving mental health services, such as past or current participation in behavioral health, substance, or homeless services.
  • Commitment to assist others in attaining their mental health recovery goals, in part, through sharing own personal lived experiences.
  • Completion of or on track to receive New York Certified Peer Program (NYCPS) certification preferred.
  • High School diploma or G.E.D. preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Basic computer and data entry skills.
