Job Summary

The Licensed Practical Nurse plays a vital role in the delivery of patient care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Working under the supervision of Registered Nurses, this position directs and guides patient teaching and activities that align with their education and demonstrated competencies.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in assessing patients' physical, psychological, and social dimensions, as necessary, in healthcare units and housing areas.
  • Participate in developing individual treatment plans by utilizing available resources and consulting with RNs and other staff members as needed.
  • Implement individualized treatment programs as directed by healthcare practitioners.
  • Count controlled substances, syringes, needles, and sharps at the beginning of each shift with another staff member and sign count logs.
  • Apply proper safety techniques, procedures, and standard precautions when implementing clinical and technical aspects of care.
  • Respond to medical emergencies within standard guidelines.
  • Administer medications according to healthcare practitioners' orders and protocols, using pharmacy knowledge and available resources to prevent medication errors.
  • Obtain diagnostic tests in accordance with healthcare practitioners' orders and protocols, communicating results to ancillary departments as necessary.
  • Assist healthcare practitioners in medical or minor surgical procedures as required and requested to meet individual patient needs.
Requirements
  • A minimum of one (1) year of clinic experience is preferred.
  • Current licensure as a Licensed Practical/Licensed Vocational Nurse within the state of employment is mandatory.
  • CPR certification must be obtained and maintained.
  • Compliance with all applicable laws and regulations is essential.
Working Conditions

This role requires regular and continuous work under stress while maintaining attention to detail. The ability to apply sound judgment beyond standardized procedures and principles of critical thinking are crucial. Post orders may be required per site contract.
