Position Overview

The County of Marin is seeking a qualified individual for the role of Senior Systems Architect within the Systems Administration team.


Key Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the IT Server Infrastructure Manager, the Senior Systems Architect will be responsible for the upkeep and daily management of server systems and associated infrastructure, which includes:

  • Windows servers
  • Virtualization technologies
  • Office 365/Exchange Hybrid
  • Active Directory/Azure AD

This role also involves ensuring the security and dependability of directory services, collaborating on the integration of applications and databases with directory services, and performing general system configuration, automation, maintenance, and optimization of server, storage, and backup systems.

Typical duties include:

  • Asset management (tracking and inventory)
  • File Server management (DFS)
  • Administration of:
    • VMWare (Virtual Infrastructure)
    • SAN (Storage Area Network)
    • Backup systems
    • Domain management
    • Office 365
    • Cloud Storage (Azure Cloud)
    • Single Sign-On (SSO, Azure AD, ADFS, SAML)

The Senior Systems Architect operates at an advanced level, handling a variety of complex technical tasks that require strong decision-making and planning skills. This role demands minimal supervision, with work being reviewed upon completion for overall effectiveness.


Candidate Profile

Ideal Qualifications:
The successful candidate will possess a blend of technical knowledge, analytical abilities, and strong interpersonal skills. Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience in SAN systems administration
  • Knowledge of ADFS/SSO
  • Familiarity with automation tools
  • Configuration management experience with SCCM
  • Experience in virtualized environments

Additionally, the ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years of experience with the following technologies:

  • Windows Server Virtualization
  • Microsoft System Center Suite
  • Microsoft Office 365 Hybrid
  • Windows PowerShell and scripting
  • Active Directory/Azure AD Administration
  • Backup Technologies

Proficiency in multiple languages, both written and spoken, is an advantage.


Minimum Requirements

Applicants must possess a combination of professional experience, certifications, and/or relevant coursework that demonstrates the necessary knowledge and skills for the role. Examples include:

  • Completion of twelve (12) semester units of coursework from an accredited program in a relevant discipline, equivalent to one year of related professional experience.
  • Completion of a certification program relevant to the position.
  • Successful completion of a training program providing the necessary knowledge and skills.
  • Internship or apprenticeship experience relevant to the role.
  • Relevant professional experience demonstrating the required knowledge and skills.
