Job Description

Job Summary:

This position provides critical support to new product development, engineering, sales, and marketing teams at Amphenol TCS by offering expertise in high-speed signal transmission and technology development. The role involves defining, planning, and executing signal integrity deliverables, including modeling, simulation, and testing, as well as communicating these deliverables through reports and presentations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • New Product Development Support:
    • Utilize advanced 2D, 3D, and full-wave electromagnetic field solvers to model connector structures and optimize electrical and mechanical performance.
    • Employ simulation tools to predict the electrical performance of connectors, backplane links, and cable assemblies, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
    • Collaborate closely with product development engineers to refine concepts into product designs that meet electrical and mechanical requirements.
    • Design high-speed test boards for conducting electrical characterization tests and validating product performance.
    • Perform high-speed/high-frequency testing of interconnects using state-of-the-art laboratory equipment, including vector network analyzers, time-domain reflectometers, digital sampling scopes, and bit-error-rate test systems.
    • Produce technical reports that document predicted and/or measured performance of products, highlighting areas for improvement.
    • Participate in project team meetings and ensure timely availability of all SI-related deliverables.
    • Develop new transmission line technologies and solutions to enhance the electrical performance of connectors and cable assemblies.
  • Customer Support:
    • Produce customer S-parameter models of new products to facilitate seamless integration and compatibility.
    • Perform SI measurements and/or simulations with test reports in response to specific customer questions or concerns, ensuring timely resolution.
    • Interact directly with customers to understand their needs and communicate effective solutions.
  • Marketing and Sales Support:
    • Produce S-parameter models of new products to support sales and marketing efforts, highlighting product features and benefits.
    • Develop simulation and test reports to support sales and marketing initiatives, showcasing product performance and capabilities.
    • Develop technical presentations to support new product introductions, highlighting key features and benefits.
    • Support the marketing effort of new products by making technical presentations at potential customer sites, demonstrating product expertise.
  • Capability and Competency Research and Development:
    • Stay abreast of new technology and customer requirements through literature, patents, and trade shows, ensuring Amphenol TCS remains competitive.
    • Monitor competitor technology advancements through literature, patents, and trade shows, identifying areas for improvement.
    • Participate in competitive analyses via SI measurement and/or simulation, providing valuable insights for product development.
    • Advise project teams on signal integrity aspects of connector and cable assembly design, ensuring optimal performance.
    • Analyze, improve, optimize, and automate existing SI simulation methods and procedures to enhance quality and efficiency.
    • Analyze, improve, optimize, and automate existing SI measurement methods and procedures to enhance quality and efficiency.
    • Assess the value, feasibility, and need of new SI simulation software and test systems for use by SI Engineers, ensuring optimal toolset.
    • Assess the value, feasibility, and need of new SI test equipment for use in SI Laboratories, ensuring optimal testing capabilities.
  • New Technology Research:
    • Investigate the limits of new high-speed connector technologies, identifying potential applications and benefits.
    • Predict the impact of new high-speed connector technologies on future specifications and products, informing product development.

Communication:

  • Communicate effectively with:
  • Requestors of SI Support (Project Managers, Engineering colleagues, Engineering Management, Sales and Marketing)
  • Regional/Global Signal Integrity teams
  • Regional/Global Development Engineering groups
  • Engineering groups from manufacturing sites
  • Customers
  • International SI community

Leadership:

  • Act as company technical representative on various industry standards committees, ensuring Amphenol TCS' voice is heard.
  • Lead the signal integrity efforts in support of assigned projects, including planning necessary SI activities and overseeing SI Engineers who are assisting.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
  • Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field with 2+ years of current experience in interconnect signal integrity measurement and/or simulation.

OR

  • Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field and 5+ years of experience in interconnect signal integrity measurement and/or simulation.
  • Proficiency in English spoken and written word - required.
