Role Overview:

The Housing Stabilization Specialist will serve as a housing expert within their designated family emergency shelter program, specializing in high-volume placements. This role requires regular on-site presence at a shelter site within Massachusetts, with occasional travel to other sites.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner with shelter staff to assess and document family and individual needs, considering factors such as family size, geographic location, and public transit needs.
  • Develop and deliver on-site and virtual training for staff on housing navigation resources and approaches, with follow-up in-person coaching.
  • Develop and implement a performance management program for housing navigation efforts across shelter sites, collaborating with other locations to implement best practices.
  • Capture accurate, timely data and drive initiatives to ensure continuous performance improvement.
  • Maintain a clear understanding of data discrepancies and their relation to housing placement.
  • Ensure compliance accuracy with program requirements and data accuracy both internally and in databases.
  • Provide flexible operational and programmatic support to shelter program operations as needed.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of High School Diploma required, Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience providing intensive housing placement services.
  • Previous experience working within Emergency & Family Shelters settings.
  • Experience working with individuals who have recently immigrated to the US, particularly from Haiti is preferred.
  • Able to leverage housing navigation resources in Massachusetts to successfully connect families with long-term housing.
  • Expertise in housing funding resources and opportunities.
  • Ability to develop and deliver effective training.
  • Experience in shelters, social services, or related environments supporting people with housing navigation.
  • Requires excellent interpersonal skills to communicate and work with staff and external partners of all skill and experience levels.
  • Strong in identifying problems and opportunities for improvement with plans for resolution.
  • Must be able to work collaboratively and create an atmosphere of trust and respect within project teams and with external partners.
  • Must be highly organized and self-directed with a proven ability to work with supervision on projects of a diverse nature.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Intermediate computer skills, including Excel, pivot tables, lookup functions, etc., and other Microsoft Office products.
  • High sense of diplomacy to recognize politically sensitive issues.
  • Ability to take personal initiative and work independently, as well as part of a team.
  • Valid Massachusetts Drivers License and consistent, reliable transportation with the ability to travel throughout Massachusetts.
  • Additional Language Abilities is preferred (Haitian Creole or Spanish).
