Job Description:
At the City of New Albany, we are seeking a skilled Veterinarian to join our team as a contract-based professional. This exciting opportunity allows for a variable schedule, working under the Director and the Animal Care Coordinator.

The selected candidate will provide directed veterinary services on a contractual basis to our shelter. The key duties include:
  • Supervising veterinary assistants involved in surgical activities.
  • Performing alterations on healthy shelter animals as designated by management.
  • Conducting routine laboratory tests to assess animal health, as directed by superiors.
  • Examining animals to diagnose diseases or injuries and collaborating with the Animal Care Coordinator to develop treatment plans when necessary.
  • Advising the Animal Care Coordinator on animal care, including feeding, general well-being, and special medical needs to promote shelter animal health.
  • Administering vaccinations for rabies and other infectious diseases, as well as microchipping animals.
  • Testing animals for heartworms and Feline Leukemia/FIV.
  • Providing medical statements for court testimony or assisting in Animal Control investigations.
  • Maintaining accurate records of drugs used in surgery and treatment.
  • Communicating effectively with shelter staff to evaluate animals and facilitate their placement.
  • Staying up-to-date with national trends in animal sheltering and participating in relevant training sessions.
  • Assisting with animal care and euthanasia, as needed.
