This role requires a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced within a correctional facility while delivering comprehensive medical care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Employs the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care effectively.
- Conducts thorough interviews to identify the specific health needs of inmates.
- Monitors and assesses physiological and psychosocial changes in patients' conditions.
- Performs health assessments on newly admitted individuals.
- Facilitates referrals to physicians, nurse practitioners, dentists, or mental health specialists as needed.
- Determines the necessity for emergency medical care and ensures medication administration aligns with established protocols.
- Collects and analyzes health data, documenting nursing diagnoses accurately.
- Creates and maintains patient care plans based on identified nursing diagnoses and expected outcomes.
- Prioritizes actions based on patient care needs and monitors the consistency of care provided by medical staff.
- Implements nursing interventions according to established priorities and hospital policies.
- Initiates patient education and revises care plans based on ongoing evaluations.
- Documents patient responses to nursing interventions and other treatments.
- Supervises and guides other healthcare personnel, such as LPNs and CNAs.
- Performs additional duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Valid Registered Nurse License in the applicable state.
- Preferred: Minimum of one year of experience in correctional healthcare.
- Adheres to all relevant professional standards of practice.
- Completion of competency programs as required.
- Current CPR certification, if applicable.
- Compliance with TB screening requirements.
- Possession of a current health certificate as per regulations.
- Meets all federal, state, and local requirements.
- Successful completion of training specific to the job site.
- Understanding of patient confidentiality and HIPAA regulations.
- Strong communication skills and proficiency in English.
- Proficient in computer use.
- Minimum age requirement of 18 years.
- Flexibility to work various shifts as needed.
- Experience in a setting that resembles a long-term care facility, catering to patients with diverse health conditions.
