Job Responsibilities- Diagnose and Treat Digestive Disorders: Diagnose and treat a wide range of digestive system disorders in adults and potentially children, depending on the position.
- Conduct Comprehensive Patient Histories and Physical Examinations: Conduct comprehensive patient histories and physical examinations to determine the best course of treatment.
- Order and Interpret Diagnostic Tests: Order and interpret diagnostic tests such as endoscopies, X-rays, CT scans, and blood tests to aid in diagnosis.
- Perform Endoscopic Procedures: Perform endoscopic procedures to diagnose and treat digestive conditions, depending on the scope of practice.
- Develop and Implement Treatment Plans: Develop and implement treatment plans tailored to each patient's specific needs.
- Manage Chronic Digestive Conditions: Manage chronic digestive conditions and provide ongoing patient care to ensure the best possible outcomes.
- Collaborate with Healthcare Teams: Collaborate with surgeons, radiologists, and other specialists when needed to ensure coordinated care.
- Educate Patients: Educate patients on digestive health and disease prevention to promote healthy habits and outcomes.
- Maintain Accurate Medical Records: Maintain accurate and complete medical records for all patients.
- Stay Current with Continuing Education: Stay current on the latest advancements in gastroenterology through continuing education to provide the best possible care.
- Education: Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school.
- Residency Training: Residency training program in internal medicine accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA).
- Fellowship Training: Fellowship training in gastroenterology may be preferred depending on the position.
- Board Certification: Board certification in gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) or the AOA.
- Medical License: Active and unrestricted medical license in Tennessee.
- Experience: At least one year of experience providing gastroenterology care in a clinical or hospital setting.
