Job Overview

Position Summary:

The General Engineer will conduct thorough investigations, analyses, and provide technical recommendations on engineering challenges with minimal supervision. This role requires the ability to independently manage most tasks without direct oversight from senior personnel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement creative solutions to complex design and manufacturing issues within a collaborative team setting.
  • Demonstrate the ability to autonomously identify and resolve challenges promptly; effectively gather and analyze data; propose alternative solutions; and excel in group problem-solving scenarios.
  • Assist the Program Manager in ensuring compliance with product and aircraft specifications, as well as technical and financial reporting and quality assurance measures without direct senior oversight.
  • Lead initiatives in manufacturing processes and material innovation during the early phases (TRL 0-5), aiming to transition projects to cross-functional teams such as Operations, Manufacturing, Quality, and Regulatory to fulfill project commitments regarding quality, timelines, and costs.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Occasionally share responsibilities for mentoring and developing junior engineers, scientists, or technicians during specific projects.
  • Contribute to the formulation of long-term strategies for advanced materials and manufacturing techniques.
  • Conduct detailed design evaluations for product/process submissions to higher-level reviews.
  • Incorporate design for manufacturability principles in new processes to reduce lifecycle costs.
  • Collaborate to establish advanced engineering and manufacturing processes, including raw material selection, process design, and optimization.
  • Develop innovative qualification methodologies, applying relevant statistical and validation techniques based on overall risk assessments.
  • Engage in Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis (PFMEA) studies and risk assessment activities related to material processing.
  • Participate in partnerships with research and development entities and academic institutions.
  • Provide timely and precise updates on project activities to senior management.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Materials Engineering, Metallurgy, Aerospace, Mechanical, or a related engineering discipline.
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in product development, material processing, and testing or equivalent experience is required.
  • Experience in Program/Project Management is essential.
  • A solid understanding of various manufacturing types, mechanisms, and materials is necessary.
  • Experience in process qualification, validation, and verification is required.
  • Strong analytical abilities are essential.
  • Familiarity with Military Specifications and Standards is preferred.
  • Knowledge of core manufacturing processes such as additive manufacturing, materials development, materials testing, and metal surface finishing is beneficial.
  • Experience in risk management is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

This position requires the ability to learn and apply new information and skills regularly. The employee must be capable of interpreting data, information, and documents. Occasionally, the role may require lifting up to 10 lbs. The work environment typically has moderate temperature and noise levels.
