Cardiac Sonographer

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Cardiac Sonographer to join our team at Nuvance Health. As a key member of our diagnostic imaging department, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the success of our organization.

Key Responsibilities

1. Patient Preparation and Imaging

• Review patient medical history and physician instructions to ensure accurate test procedures.
• Prepare equipment for procedures, select patient from modality work list, and confirm patient identity.
• Operate special equipment to direct sound waves into patient areas, collecting reflected echoes to form images for diagnosis.

• Look for visual cues to contrast healthy areas with unhealthy ones during scans.
• Follow imaging and measurement protocols for each study.
• Prepare preliminary reports for physicians, reviewing for demographic and report accuracy.

• Assist with training new echo staff members.
• Coordinate measurement and text changes to GE units.

• Maintain and model Nuvance Health values.
• Follow established department and Nuvance Health protocols.
• Demonstrate regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.

Requirements

• Education and Experience
  • High school diploma.
  • Certificate in sonography from an accredited school.
  • Minimum two years' experience or registered through ARDMS or CCI.
• Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, instrumentation, basic physics, patient care, and medical ethics.
  • Knowledge of mathematics and science.
  • Knowledge of safety, infection control, and quality improvement practices.
  • Skill in gathering and analyzing patient data.
  • Ability to explain technical procedures to patients in a user-friendly manner.
• License, Registration, or Certification
  • Certification of competency and registration through American Registry for Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer; Registered Vascular Technologist; Cardiovascular Credentialing International - Registered Cardiac Sonographer; or Registered Vascular Specialist.

Working Conditions

Manual: significant manual skills/motor coordination and finger dexterity.

Occupational: some occupational risk.

Physical Environment: some exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste, etc.
