Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled Carpenter to join our team in Somerville. As a Carpenter, you will be responsible for constructing, altering, and repairing structures, buildings, furniture, equipment, and fixtures made of wood or similar materials. You will work in accordance with building codes and standard trade practices.The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of experience in carpentry and possess a valid Massachusetts Class D driver's license and a valid Massachusetts Department of Public Safety Builder's License, Department of Labor & Industries Contractor License, or Board of Building Regulations & Standards Construction Supervisors License. You must also be able to receive and interpret written and oral instructions from a supervisor and possess the ability to use tools of trade in a workmanlike manner.
Responsibilities:
- Construct, alter, and repair structures, buildings, furniture, equipment, and fixtures made of wood or similar materials.
- Fabricate, alter, and repair structural woodwork, floors, stairways, and fixtures.
- Perform repairs on such equipment as desks, chairs, tables, shelves, and cabinets.
- Hang doors and repair related hardware.
- Repair windows, frames, and screens.
- Perform unskilled labor duties such as digging holes, trenches, and other excavations; shoveling materials and leveling areas; delivering supplies; assisting other personnel in Building Division tasks; loading and unloading materials; removing snow/ice using manual or small powered equipment; spreading sand on icy areas; using small hand tools, i.e., shovels, picks, axes, saws, heavy wrenches, and small power tools.
Requirements:
- 5+ years' experience in carpentry.
- Valid Massachusetts Class D driver's license.
- Valid Massachusetts Department of Public Safety Builder's License, Department of Labor & Industries Contractor License, or Board of Building Regulations & Standards Construction Supervisors License.
- Ability to receive and interpret written and oral instructions from a supervisor.
- Ability to use tools of trade in a workmanlike manner.
