Position Summary

The Crisis Center of Tampa Bay is dedicated to providing support, hope, and recovery for individuals facing significant life challenges or trauma, including but not limited to, experiences of sexual assault, domestic violence, financial hardship, substance misuse, medical emergencies, and emotional distress. The Trauma Counselor I role is essential in delivering continuous therapeutic support to trauma survivors and their families.


Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver therapeutic interventions to assist trauma victims, while also promoting community awareness through outreach initiatives.
  • Engage with team members and stakeholders in the quality improvement process, utilizing data to enhance service delivery and outcomes.

Core Duties
  • Provide counseling services to individuals affected by trauma, including survivors of domestic violence and sexual abuse, through individual, group, and family therapy sessions.
  • Manage client cases effectively, ensuring comprehensive support.
  • Collaborate with Child Welfare and judicial systems to provide insights on treatment needs as required.
  • Conduct initial assessments for potential clients.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of client interactions and treatment plans, adhering to established protocols.
  • Participate in community advocacy and awareness efforts.
  • Engage in regular clinical supervision as mandated by regulatory bodies.
  • Complete necessary state outcome measures and training as required by funding sources.
  • Assist in the coordination of clinical services as directed.
  • Represent the organization in relevant meetings and committees.
  • Support the supervision and training of interns and new staff.
  • Contribute to training initiatives related to trauma-informed care.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by supervisory staff.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Master's degree in mental health or related fields.
  • At least one year of counseling experience and registration as an intern in the State of Florida as a Mental Health Counselor, Marriage & Family Therapist, or Clinical Social Worker.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English is highly preferred to effectively serve a diverse clientele.

Knowledge and Abilities
  • Familiarity with community resources and trauma-informed care principles.
  • Ability to collect and analyze data effectively.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Capability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Proficient in crisis intervention techniques.
  • Understanding of HIPAA regulations and agency policies.

Work Environment

This role primarily operates in an office environment, with occasional travel required for meetings. The position necessitates the ability to communicate effectively and assess clients in a professional manner.
