Banquet Captain

ASM Global, a leading provider of public assembly facilities, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Banquet Captain to oversee the execution of events at the Hampton Roads Convention Center. As a Banquet Captain, you will be responsible for supervising and coordinating the activities of banquet servers, ensuring that food is served promptly and to the highest standards of quality and service.

• Communicate effectively with clients, staff, and management to ensure seamless event execution
• Supervise and train banquet servers to ensure excellent service and high-quality food presentation
• Meet with clients prior to events to review menus, itineraries, and special requests
• Anticipate and respond to customer needs, ensuring prompt and courteous service
• Lead by example, motivating staff to exceed guest expectations and resolve conflicts
• Conduct pre-shift lineups to review menus, event itineraries, and provide training topics
• Prepare and submit detailed reports on event functions and client feedback
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment, adhering to health and safety standards
• Ensure accurate and timely completion of closing duties and staff sign-out procedures
• Foster a positive and cooperative working climate, promoting employee morale and productivity

• Train and develop staff to meet the needs of the department and organization
• Plan, assign, and direct work to ensure efficient event execution
• Appraise staff performance, provide feedback, and address disciplinary issues
• Address customer complaints and resolve problems in a professional and courteous manner

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• One year of experience as a banquet server or captain
• Food Handler's and Alcohol Awareness Certificate preferred
• Previous supervisory experience an asset

• Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays
• Professional attitude and appearance
• Ability to lift up to 20 pounds and perform repetitive tasks

• Basic knowledge of computers and software applications

• Regularly required to move around the facility, stand for long periods, and talk and hear
• May require work inside or outside the building, as needed by events
