Position Overview

Job Title: First Year Admissions Counselor

Reports To: Director of Recruitment and Training (Enrollment Management)

Status: Exempt, Full Time

Key Responsibilities

  1. Acquire comprehensive knowledge about Mount Saint Mary College and its academic offerings as well as extracurricular activities, and communicate these effectively to prospective students, their families, guidance counselors, and the wider community.
  2. Engage in the recruitment of prospective students by visiting high schools and participating in college fairs within designated regions; foster relationships with guidance and college counselors to enhance application and enrollment metrics; provide ongoing analysis and insights regarding recruitment territories.
  3. Support the daily functions of the Admissions Office through presentations, interviews, and participation in on-campus and off-campus events, including Open Houses and Accepted Student Receptions, alongside managing outreach through various communication channels.
  4. Achieve departmental objectives for inquiries, applications, and student enrollments by overseeing the application process for assigned territories.
  5. Collaborate with colleagues in financial aid, academic advising, and registrar offices to facilitate a seamless transition for applicants to enrolled students.
  6. Maintain and organize records, including travel documentation and student files.
  7. Perform additional tasks as necessary to align with organizational goals and needs.

Qualifications

  1. A bachelor's degree coupled with six to twelve months of experience in recruitment, public relations, marketing, or a related area, ideally within a higher education context.
  2. Exceptional verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  3. Strong interpersonal abilities to engage effectively with students, faculty, and staff.
  4. Proficient time management and organizational skills, with a keen attention to detail and the capability to prioritize tasks independently.
  5. Demonstrated customer service aptitude.
  6. Familiarity with office technology and software (e.g., Word, PowerPoint).
  7. Willingness to travel extensively, with some experience in arranging travel logistics.
  8. A robust work ethic and a high level of professionalism.
  9. A valid driver's license is required.
  10. Availability for evening and weekend work is essential.
  11. Spanish language proficiency is preferred.

Work Environment

This role operates in a dynamic, goal-oriented environment requiring multitasking and adherence to deadlines. Travel across the United States, along with evening and weekend commitments, will be necessary throughout the year. The position may involve extended periods of sitting, walking, and occasional lifting.
