Inpatient Surgical Nurse Assistant

Job Summary:

As a Certified Nurse Assistant for Surgical Patients, you will provide high-quality patient care under the supervision of Registered Nurses and at the direction of the 2nd floor Manager. Your primary responsibility will be to support and assist patients with their care needs, ensuring their safety and comfort throughout their stay.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Transport and reposition patients and equipment as needed
  • Assist with preparation of the 2nd floor and maintain a clean and safe environment
  • Participate in quality improvement activities and contribute to a positive patient experience
  • Collaborate with other CNAs, RNs, and Charge RNs to ensure seamless patient care
  • Perform routine observation and documentation of ADLs, vital signs, and drain output as indicated by provider order or RN needs
  • Provide safe patient transfers using assistive devices and medical equipment
  • Assist patients with use of bedpans or commodes and maintain patient hygiene
  • Answer patient call lights and respond to patient needs in a timely manner
  • Change patient linens daily and as needed
  • Perform daily glucometer and strip quality checks as required or requested by Charge RN
  • Keep patient rooms tidy and neat, adhering to infection control guidelines and policies
  • Serve meals and snacks as needed and maintain a positive patient experience
  • Perform routine room audits, inventory of outdated supplies, and stocking of supplies in patient rooms, utility rooms, med carts, and on the unit
  • Protect patients' sensitivities and maintain patient confidentiality
  • Demonstrate proper technique with pre-operative scrubs and shaves as requested
  • Handle and transport specimens, labs, and biohazardous material as directed by manager
Requirements:
  • Current CNA licensure in the State of Wisconsin
  • BLS certification is required upon hire
  • Ability to relate and work effectively with others
  • Demonstrated skills in verbal and written English communications for safe and effective patient care and to meet documentation standards
  • Willingness to participate in goal-setting and educational activities for own professional advancement
