Position Overview

The Senior Rehabilitation Therapist at Houston Methodist is tasked with overseeing formal responsibilities for a designated service line, shift, and/or multiple clinics while acting as a clinical authority. This role encompasses conducting patient evaluations, formulating care plans, and implementing treatments across a diverse spectrum of conditions and complexities, or for a specialized service line.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the collection and analysis of performance metrics, reporting on data to establish best practices and spearhead process and quality enhancement initiatives.
  • Serve as a mentor and resource for team members, utilizing expertise to train and elevate the performance of others within the assigned service line, shift, and/or clinics.
  • Conduct quality assurance evaluations of staff performance, providing constructive feedback to management and identifying areas for professional development.
  • Act as the primary liaison between management and staff for routine operational matters, coordinating activities within the service line, shift, and/or clinics.

People Management Functions

  • Foster a collaborative work environment, building professional relationships based on trust and credibility with all healthcare team members.
  • Demonstrate effective therapeutic communication, engaging in active listening and teaching to collaborate on patient care plans.
  • Implement protocols with team members to optimize performance, safety, and customer service, while providing feedback on team member conduct.
  • Act as a preceptor and mentor to other physical therapists, advancing their professional development through guidance in project execution and educational initiatives.

Clinical Functions

  • Conduct thorough evaluations of patients to assess functional levels and develop comprehensive care plans.
  • Deliver advanced therapy treatments, serving as the clinical expert for complex patient assessments and interventions.
  • Educate patients and their families based on individual learning needs, adapting teaching methods to ensure comprehension.

Quality and Safety Functions

  • Regularly assess patient progress towards treatment goals, adjusting plans as necessary to ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Monitor and report on quality and safety metrics, leading initiatives to enhance patient experiences and departmental performance.

Financial Management Functions

  • Ensure accurate documentation of patient education and procedures, managing charges for services provided.
  • Utilize resources efficiently to maximize productivity and manage time effectively within the department.

Growth and Innovation Functions

  • Develop treatment protocols and best practices informed by research, leading departmental projects and community engagement initiatives.
  • Identify personal development needs and pursue opportunities for continuous learning and professional growth.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited education program for physical therapy.
  • Minimum of five years of experience as a Physical Therapist, or four years with a specialty certification.
  • Required licenses include State Licensure for Physical Therapy and Basic Life Support certification.
  • Preferred specialty certification is highly regarded.

  • Demonstrated ability to perform assigned tasks safely and effectively.
  • Proficient in English communication, both written and verbal.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work independently in challenging situations.
