Position Overview
LOCATION: Lancaster General Health
HOURS: Part-time, 8 hours weekly, schedule based on operational needs, includes weekend duties
POSITION SUMMARY: This role involves delivering nursing care to patients within a healthcare facility. The nursing services encompass care for patients across various age groups: pediatric (infants to 12 years), adolescent (13 to 17 years), adult (18 to 64 years), and geriatric (over 64 years).
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Candidates must possess the capability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to fulfill the following responsibilities:
- Offer clinical guidance via phone or electronic communication based on clinical assessments and/or triage protocols, adhering to regulatory standards and best practices. Collaborate with healthcare providers as needed.
- Deliver patient-specific education on topics such as preventive care, chronic disease management, acute conditions, medications, and other relevant areas impacting patient outcomes.
- Prepare patients for consultations by utilizing appropriate rooming standards.
- Administer injections and medications as directed by the healthcare provider, following departmental protocols and regulatory standards.
- Assist healthcare providers with various procedures, minor surgeries, and examinations as assigned.
- Conduct Point of Care Testing, including but not limited to hearing, flu, urine, and strep tests.
- Collect blood or other laboratory specimens and prepare them for further analysis.
- Authorize prescription refills as per provider instructions.
- Support test tracking and monitor overdue results.
- Remove sutures and change dressings on wounds as required.
- Ensure examination rooms are adequately stocked and sanitized after each patient visit. Maintain and clean medical instruments and equipment post-procedure.
- Assist providers and patients in reviewing and updating care plans, assessing patient progress, and following up as necessary.
- Engage in proactive outreach for patients needing preventive and chronic disease services.
- Facilitate care coordination among specialists and manage transitions of care to gather all necessary patient information.
- Assist in coordinating referrals, education, and community resources.
- Actively participate in initiatives aimed at enhancing performance and improving the overall patient experience and quality of care.
- Participate in daily meetings with the healthcare provider.
- Serve as an advocate for patient experience by maintaining a positive demeanor during interactions with patients, visitors, and colleagues. Communicate professionally with all stakeholders while prioritizing customer service.
- Handle all patient information confidentially in accordance with privacy policies and procedures.
- Perform various administrative duties as required.
- May involve some regional travel - a valid driver's license is necessary if travel is required.
- Participate in on-call responsibilities as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completion of a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) educational program.
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) issued by the appropriate state board.
- AHA CPR/BLS certification required within 30 days of employment.
- This position may require occasional regional travel to multiple sites.
- One (1) to Two (2) years of nursing experience in a primary or specialty care setting.
- Previous experience in triage, emergency care, cardiac care, intensive care, or related nursing specialties.
