Job Title: Union Organizer

SEIU USWW is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Union Organizer to join our team in Northern California. As a Union Organizer, you will play a critical role in building power for low-wage workers in the service industry.

Job Summary:

The Union Organizer will work under the direction of the Northern California Janitorial Division Coordinator to organize workers, identify workplace issues, and execute worksite actions. This position will also participate in contract negotiations and coordinated campaigns, planning and mobilization for worksite actions, union events, and marches.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Organize workers and identify workplace issues to execute worksite actions.
  • Participate in contract negotiations and coordinated campaigns.
  • Plan and mobilize for worksite actions, union events, and marches.
  • Conduct one-on-ones, site visits, and member-led committee meetings.
  • Identify, recruit, train, and develop member leaders, stewards, and member-led committees.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed information on worksites, individual workers, and assignments.
  • Effectively communicate with members and employers to enforce contract and resolve worksite disputes and issues.
  • Prepare and manage workplans, calendars, files, and records.
  • Engage members in union political programs and activities.
Requirements:
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university in a relevant field or equivalent experience in labor and community organizing.
  • Proven commitment to social and economic justice and improving the lives of working people.
  • Experience working on campaigns with a labor union, public policy, or non-profit organization.
  • Knowledge of union organizing practice and principles.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a fast-paced and diverse team environment.
  • Ability to effectively plan and implement work and manage time, as part of a team and individually.
  • Demonstrated ability to clearly convey information and ideas both verbally and in writing across audiences.
  • Computer proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Gmail, social media platforms, database, and teleconferencing.
Additional Requirements:
  • Ability to travel in California, work extended and irregular hours, and work off-site.
  • Valid drivers' license, use of a car for work, and specified automobile insurance coverage are mandatory.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish (written and verbal) is required.
