Skidmore College - Lead Technical Manager for Computer Science Systems
The Computer Science department at Skidmore College is in search of a Lead Technical Manager to oversee the Linux computing systems utilized for educational and research purposes. This role encompasses the maintenance of servers, client devices, and related infrastructure, alongside strategic planning for future requirements in alignment with industry developments and departmental goals.
This is a full-time, 12-month role primarily conducted during standard business hours. However, occasional availability outside of these hours will be necessary for system upkeep and troubleshooting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee Linux servers, client workstations, and user accounts management.
- Facilitate support for computer applications integral to the curriculum.
- Guarantee system security and uphold data integrity.
- Conduct capacity assessments and implement enhancements to the infrastructure.
- Construct and sustain Linux computing clusters for research initiatives.
- Supervise and mentor student employees.
- Capability to lift or move items weighing up to 40 pounds.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in Linux system administration.
- In-depth knowledge of the Linux operating system and its administration tools.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Bash, Python, C++, and Java.
- Experience with server virtualization, network architecture, and information security protocols.
- Exceptional problem-solving abilities and communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse groups.
Compensation Range: $85,000 to $95,000
