Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Pathology Grossing Assistant to join our team at NYU Langone Health. As a key member of our surgical pathology laboratory, you will be responsible for the gross examination and dissection of anatomic pathology biopsy specimens.

Key Responsibilities
  • Reconcile biopsy specimens to ensure accurate accessioning and labeling.
  • Assist with quality assurance and quality improvement initiatives, ensuring compliance with CAP, NYSDOH, and Joint Commission standards.
  • Perform maintenance tasks in the laboratory, including cleaning workstations and ensuring proper equipment maintenance.
  • Notify supervisors of low supply inventory and assist with supply management.
  • Dissect specimens according to protocols and procedures, preparing tissue for histological processing.
  • Correlate specimen information with attending pathologists as necessary.
  • Dictate gross descriptions accurately, including relevant details such as color, measurement, and weight.
  • Load cassettes on tissue processors and perform frozen sectioning using cryostat and brain lab software.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory science, medical technology, biology, or related field.
  • One year of experience in a surgical pathology laboratory, including gross dissection and dictation of surgical biopsy specimens.
  • NYSDOH license as a clinical laboratory histotechnician, technician, or technologist.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Board certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathology Board of Registry.
  • Experience working with residents and fellows.
  • Two years of experience in a surgical pathology laboratory grossing and dictating surgical biopsy specimens.
