Bradenton, Florida, United States US Water Services Corporation Full time
Job Overview

U.S. Water Services Corporation is a prominent and multifaceted organization in the water and wastewater sector, focusing on utility maintenance, operational management, engineering, and construction services. Headquartered in New Port Richey, Florida, we are a dynamic and rapidly growing company with a workforce exceeding 850 employees across twenty states.

Position Summary:

The role of the Plant and Lift Station Mechanic involves the upkeep and repair of machinery and equipment essential for the treatment and distribution of potable water for residential and industrial applications. This position also encompasses the maintenance and repair of systems within wastewater treatment facilities, ensuring that water is effectively purified before being returned to natural water bodies. Furthermore, mechanics are responsible for the oversight and inspection of lift stations within the collection network.

Key Responsibilities:

Mechanics in this role may be tasked with:

  • Dismantling machinery, including electric motors, turbines, pumps, valves, and gauges, to access and replace defective components.
  • Conducting inspections and performing repairs or replacements of faulty parts.
  • Lubricating moving components or substituting worn parts to avert breakdowns.
  • Occasionally operating plant machinery to facilitate water processing and distribution.
  • Executing plumbing tasks, including pipe cleaning and fitting as necessary.
  • Utilizing welding equipment for heating, cutting, brazing, or welding tasks.
  • Supervising and instructing maintenance assistants or laborers.
  • Performing general maintenance and repair work on facilities and grounds.

Specific duties for a Lift Station Mechanic may include:

  • Dismantling and repairing auxiliary systems such as pumps, compressors, and piping.
  • Assisting in the evaluation and performance testing of both new and existing equipment.
  • Installing electrical connections between machinery, switchboards, and control panels.
  • Conducting routine inspections and troubleshooting control panel issues.
  • Removing debris from pumps and operating truck-mounted cranes.

In larger treatment facilities, mechanics primarily focus on maintenance and repair tasks, while in smaller settings, they may also operate machinery, conduct tests, and maintain records, similar to the responsibilities of a water treatment plant operator.

Work Environment and Requirements:

Utility Mechanics typically operate under the guidance of a maintenance supervisor or superintendent. In certain facilities, they may oversee junior mechanics, helpers, or laborers. The work environment can vary, involving both indoor and outdoor settings, with potential exposure to noise, unpleasant odors, dust, and various airborne substances. Mechanics may encounter hazardous conditions, including slippery surfaces and malfunctioning equipment. Generally, these professionals work a standard 5-day, 40-hour week, but may be required to work evenings, weekends, or holidays, and could be on call for emergency repairs.

Preferred Skills:

  • Interest in activities involving machinery and processes.
  • Satisfaction derived from producing and working on tangible projects.

Essential Abilities:

  • Capability to perform a variety of tasks that may frequently change.
  • Skillfulness in manual tasks and dexterity with tools.
  • Ability to evaluate information using measurable standards.
  • Adherence to precise accuracy standards.

Compensation and Benefits: Compensation is based on experience and market standards. U.S. Water Services Corporation offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short/long-term disability, paid time off, holiday pay, and a 401(k) plan with company matching.

U.S. Water Services Corporation is dedicated to providing competitive wages and benefits while fostering a diverse workforce.
