Gymnastics Team Coach Job Description

As a Gymnastics Team Coach at Central Connecticut Coast YMCA, you will play a pivotal role in nurturing the growth and development of aspiring gymnasts. You will guide them in mastering gymnastic skills, promoting teamwork, and embodying the core values of the YMCA. This position involves coaching for both home and away meets, fostering a positive environment for youth and teens, and establishing effective communication with parents.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coaching and Development: Demonstrate and instill the values of the YMCA: Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility. Must be confident in spotting skills for Levels 6-10 including but not limited to: high bar giants, release moves, flight skills and salto dismounts on beam, twisting 1/1 - 2/1 on all apparatus, Yurchenkos and Tsukaharas over the vault table.
  • Team Management: Coach gymnastic team members during practice sessions, home meets, and away meets. Collaborate with fellow coaches to design routines and skill development progressions.
  • Communication: Provide constructive feedback to gymnasts to enhance their performance and technique. Communicate effectively with parents regarding their child's progress, goals, and performance in meets.
  • Safety and Inclusion: Maintain a safe and inclusive environment that encourages participation and teamwork. Uphold Safe Sport and USAG certifications to ensure a safe and secure training environment.
Requirements
  • Experience: Must have a minimum of 2 years' experience coaching compulsory/or optional level teams and demonstrate the ability to supervise and safely spot gymnastics participants in competitive levels 3-10.
  • Education and Qualifications: Positive, nurturing personality with a passion for acting as a strong role model for youth. Prior experience in supervision of children in a gymnastics or equivalent program. Must be able to effectively communicate with children and parents.
  • Certifications: Must obtain an Instructor Membership with USA Gymnastics within the first six (6) months of employment. If over the age of 18, must complete the USA Gymnastics Criminal Background Check through the National Center for Safety Initiatives. Documentation of current physical exam. Must complete CPR/AED and First Aid certification within first 90 days of employment.
Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee regularly is required to stand; walk; run, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must be able to lift at least 45 pounds; must be able to perform repetitive lifting, bending, kneeling and stooping during course of a 2-4 hour shift. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

This job operates in a recreational and educational environment. This role routinely uses standard sports and recreation equipment. At times, employees may be exposed to undesirable working conditions, communicable infectious diseases, and risk of injury from others. All employees are required to follow the preventative health policies of the YMCA at all times. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to high.
