About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Maintenance Technician to join our team at Smithfield Foods. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our electrical and mechanical equipment in a fast-paced food processing environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on electrical and mechanical equipment, including troubleshooting and diagnosing issues.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals to identify and resolve equipment problems.
  • Maintain accurate records and logs of maintenance activities and equipment performance.
  • Collaborate with other maintenance team members to ensure effective equipment operation and minimize downtime.
  • Perform preventive maintenance tasks, including lubrication, cleaning, and inspection of equipment.
  • Install new equipment and appliances, including utilities such as electrical, water, gas, and drain lines.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational diploma or technical degree preferred.
  • At least 1 year of experience in industrial mechanical maintenance or food manufacturing environment; or 4 years' direct experience in an industrial mechanical maintenance or food manufacturing maintenance environment.
  • Ability to operate a forklift, genie lift, or scissor lift, or other powered industrial trucks (PIT).
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with ability to read and execute work orders and write daily reports.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with ability to interact effectively with all levels of team personnel and outside contractors.
Work Environment and Physical Demands

The physical demands of this role include standing, walking, using hands to handle or feel objects, reaching with hands and arms, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, and talking or hearing. The work environment will include wet or humid conditions, extreme cold and heat, working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, and chemicals.
