Job Summary

This leadership position in the Transportation Department will interact with senior leaders at Fishbeck, providing opportunities for internal growth and ownership. The Transportation Department is one of the largest at Fishbeck, with over 80 employees, operations in 3 States, and annual sales of $24 million.

Primary Functions
  • Manage existing bridge projects, ensuring complete and timely submittals to MDOT and other agencies, and provide mentorship to bridge engineers.
  • Supervise bridge design engineers, responsible for designing and preparing contract plans and specifications for highway bridges, railroad bridges, and other structures.
  • Develop relationships with MDOT bridge squad leaders and regions to obtain information on upcoming bridge projects and position Fishbeck for pursuits.
  • Lead proposals for MDOT and other agencies, developing Fishbeck's priced proposal in accordance with MDOT and other owners' guidelines.
  • Other responsibilities may include:
    • Assisting with bridge design marketing activities and developing the Fishbeck Bridge/Transportation Business Plan.
    • Developing and leading Fishbeck for MDOT Program Manager projects and Owner's Rep Design-Build Contracts.
    • Representing Fishbeck in professional organizations' meetings and events to develop and maintain client relationships.
    • Leveraging relationships to develop municipal and private projects with new and existing clients.
  • Assisting with recruiting new staff for Fishbeck's transportation services.
Requirements
  • PE license required.
  • 15+ years of experience in related bridge engineering positions working on MDOT and LAP projects.
  • Experience with AASHTO LRFD and LFD Bridge Design Specifications.
  • Microstation, AutoCAD/Civil 3D software, and other design modeling software experience is a plus.
  • Experience leading a design team and mentoring junior engineers.
  • Thorough understanding of the MDOT Bridge Design Manual and Guides, Standard Specifications for Construction, and project development process required by MDOT and other Local Public Agencies.
  • Ability to lead a multi-discipline bridge design project.
